EPISODE XXIV - CONJUNCTION JUNCTION, WHAT'S YOUR FUNCTION?

Egan stumbled, fell, and was dragged in Reed's wake, never slowing.  Rounding a corner, their momentum stopped abruptly.  Egan peered around the Commander, seeing the cybernetic duo of Dana and Anda before them in the corridor.  The doctor breathed a sigh of relief.

"Thank God we found you!", he exclaimed breathlessly.

The robots regarded him curiously.

"Take the Commander into custody.", Egan ordered, gesturing excitedly.

The robots remained motionless.  Reed shoved the doctor forward, into the hands of the androids.  "Put him somewhere dark, and keep him quiet."

They complied with the Commander's instructions, Dana taking one arm, Anda the other.  Though the doctor struggled against them, his efforts were in vein, and he quietly began to whimper as he was lead down the hall.

Reed broke into a trot, his destination, the bridge.  He had not gone far when a voice barked behind him.

"Halt, Commander!!", A security troop had stumbled upon his trail and was now aiming his stun rifle at Reed.

Reed dove into a shallow doorway, barely dodging a disabling energy blast from the guard.  He reached into his uniform and retrieved the disrupter.  After taking two slow breaths to calm himself, he swung back into the hallway pointing the device at his assailant.  Aiming carefully, he fired off a thin burst of superheated energy.  The beam struck the security officer's weapon, tearing it from his grip, sending both the rifle and the troop through the air.  Both fell to the floor in an unceremonious heap.

With the guard stunned, Reed seized the moment and raced down the hall.  The guard recovered quickly and Reed could hear him speaking breathlessly into his comm-link as he pursued.  Reed rounded the next corner and stopped, listening as the footsteps pounded in his direction.  The troop realized too late the hidden threat the blind corner held when an arm shot out toward his face, effectively clothes lining the young security officer.  Dazed and confused, the guard looked up to see Reed standing over him.

"No hard feelings, huh?", Reed said with an apologetic smile as he slammed his fist into the guard face.  That problem resolved, the Commander resumed his flight toward the bridge.
