EPISODE XXXIII - KROD GIB A SI DEER
(REED IS A BIG DORK)

Mr. Schultz turned in his chair.  "We've' made contact with the landing party, Commander.", he said impassively, "It seems that they were under attack as you suspected."

Reed cocked an eyebrow, "And our aerial attack?", he queried.

"A success.", Schultz reported.  "The Jennings brothers are returning as we speak."

"Excellent.", Reed replied,  "We're there any injuries?"

Schultz studied the Commander a moment before answering.  "The sergeant said that they needed medical assistance, but was not specific as to who the casualties were."

Reed nodded thoughtfully, "Keep me advised."

The door to the bridge opened and Ensign VanTedly walked through, escorted by two security officers.  Reed recognized one of the guards from their earlier meetings in the corridors.

"We caught the Ensign trying to open one of the outer hatches.", the guard said, though it looked as though his swollen jaw made it painful to talk.

VanTedly smiled and waved at the Commander.  "Just following orders, sir."

Reed's eyes narrowed, "Did he physically attempt to breach the hull?"

The guard shifted uncomfortably under Reed's gaze, "Not exactly, sir", he paused momentarily, "he was just sort of talking to it."

Reed, confused, looked to the guard for further explanation.

"Ya' know, 'Open pod bay door, Hal'", the young security officer replied, embarrassed by VanTedly's behavior, "stuff like that."

Reed sighed wearily, "Mr. VanTedly", he began, "go stand in the corner and hold your breath."

The Ensign saluted smartly, "Aye-aye, sir."

Schultz turned from his console, "Sir, the medical team is on the planet's surface and reporting several injuries."

"Who?!?", Reed demanded.

"A few of the commandos, but Stauch is alright", he reported, "but both lieutenant's are down.  Schrader is going to be alright, but Number Two is questionable."

Reed absorbed the information, and issued the appropriate orders, fighting in vain to keep his thoughts away from the potential demise of Lt. Scott, and on the tasks at hand.
