EPISODE LI - HEH, HEH, HE SAID LXIX

Reed sat back heavily in his chair, digesting Nurse Yahbo's previous statement.  He had no idea as to the depths of Egan's treachery, but with Lt. Scott's life hanging in the balance, his decision was a relatively easy one.

"Dana", he said toggling his com switch, "take your prisoner to sickbay.  I'll meet you there."

"Aye-aye, sir.", came the monosyllabic voice of the android.

Reed stood and went to the door.  "Mr. Schultz", he said without turning, "you have the conn."

Schultz nodded, moving to the command console.  "VanTedly, take my post."  Receiving no response, Schultz cast about the bridge for the hapless Ensign who was not there.

"Mr. Jacobs", Schultz said calmly, referring to a Captain who was not really a Mister, yet was addressed as such due to her rank, "take over science officer duties."

"Aye-aye", she said, moving to the vacated post directly in front of the acting commander.

Schultz looked up from the holographic battle schematic, to view the main screen at the fore of the bridge, but was foiled by a virtual wall of hair that jutted skyward from the captain's scalp.  Getting to his feet, he took in the image of the enormous flagship as it repelled the Space Fleet fighters' attack, with seemingly little effort.  As a characteristic of his race, he was all but immune to human emotion, yet he was beginning to experience a cold anxiety.  An anxiety he hadn't felt since he'd been hit on by a confused Space Commando sergeant.
