Mr. Jeffy strode through the corridors of the USS Escort, his mind distracted by the strain his duties were having on his relationship. He entered the bridge and distractedly moved
to where Mr. Schultz sat giving orders.
"Good", Schultz said noting his arrival, "you're here. I believe we're going to need to extract Lt. Schrader from the planet's surface, as he has been injured."
This shook Jeffy from his own problems. "What happened?!"
"It seems", Schultz replied in his disquieting calm, "the Lieutenant got himself into a bit of trouble with the locals. He's been shot."
Jeffy's concern was evident. "Is he going to be alright?"
"I believe so, providing we get him back on board before one of the resident physicians can attend to him."
Jeffy took his cue. "I'll ready the transporter."
"Jeffy", Schultz called after the engineering officer, "we'll need to wait until he's clear of the settlement. We don't want to rouse the natives' suspicions."
Jeffy nodded his agreement. "Aye aye, sir", he said crisply.
Schultz keyed the communicator located on the arm of his command chair. "Bridge to Dr. Egan." After several seconds with no reply, Schultz repeated his message.
"Uh, Egan here, Bridge."
"We will have a wounded officer coming up shortly from the planet below", Schultz conveyed. "Requesting you report to the transport room."
"Where am I going?", the doctor queried.
"Nowhere", Schultz replied, "we are bringing the injured personnel to the ship."
"So stay here?"
"Negative, Doctor", Schultz said, "Report to the transport room."
"If I'm going somewhere, I should..."
Schultz cut him off. "Just report to the transport room and await further instructions. Understand?"
"Should I pack?"
Schultz shook his head miserably. "Disregard Doctor, just stand by in sick bay for wounded."
"There are no wounded in sick bay" Egan argued.
Schultz fought what little emotion he had. "Just...never mind, Egan."
"I'll stay here", the doctor suggested.
"Whatever", Schultz replied breaking, off the one sided communication. He jabbed his finger onto the comm button. "Schultz to Nurse Yahbo."
"Yahbo here, sir."
"Ma'am could you report to the transportation room to receive incoming wounded" Schultz all but pleaded.
"Roger, Mr. Schultz", she replied professionally, "I'm on my way."
